Wakefield Trinity Poised for Super League Return in 2025 with Star-Studded Squad
Wakefield Trinity, currently dominating the Championship, are widely tipped to earn a spot in the 2025 Super League season. Led by Daryl Powell, the club remains undefeated and is building an impressive roster for the upcoming campaign.
The team’s strong performance and plans for the future have not gone unnoticed. When the preliminary IMG grades were released in October, Wakefield Trinity was ranked 11th, signaling their readiness for a Super League comeback. Since then, the club has undergone a takeover by new owner Matt Ellis, developed their stadium, and seen an uptick in average attendance.
Wakefield Trinity’s recent success in the 1895 Cup, worth 0.125 points, further bolsters their case for promotion. Coupled with their four high-profile signings from the Super League, the club’s head of recruitment, Ste Mills, has outlined their ambition to become a “top four Super League side” in 2025.
The potential Wakefield Trinity lineup for 2025 is an exciting prospect for rugby league fans. Fullback Max Jowitt, who has been a fan favorite, will likely anchor the team, having scored 148 points in the Championship this season. On the wings, England international Tom Johnstone returns to Belle Vue on a four-year deal, joining the experienced Jermaine McGillvary.
In the centers, Cam Scott and Oliver Pratt, the latter a highly-rated youngster, are set to form a formidable partnership. The halves will feature Olly Russell, a playmaking maestro signed from Huddersfield, alongside the versatile Mason Lino.
Up front, Wakefield Trinity has bolstered their pack with the signings of England international Mike McMeeken and Renouf Atoni, who has found his stride this season. The hooker position could see the addition of Castleford’s Cain Robb, providing both experience and youth to the squad.
In the second row and at loose forward, Wakefield Trinity boasts a wealth of options, including Isaiah Vagana, Matty Storton, and Ky Rodwell, further strengthening their bid for Super League glory.
With their strategic recruitment and a squad brimming with talent, Wakefield Trinity is poised to make a strong return to the top flight of Rugby League in 2025.
