Wakefield Trinity Unveils Ambitious Plans for Super League Return

Wakefield Trinity’s owner, Matt Ellis, has unveiled ambitious plans for the club’s future following their relegation from the Super League. With Wakefield currently leading the Championship, Ellis is already laying the groundwork for a highly anticipated return to the top-flight.

According to the owner, the recruitment window for the 2025 season will see Wakefield Trinity make a series of high-profile signings. Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Ellis revealed that the club’s recruitment and salary cap manager, Steve Mills, has identified several key targets, including some “marquee-style players”.

Among the names linked with Wakefield are Huddersfield Giants’ Olly Russell, as well as Mike McMeeken and Tom Johnstone, who Ellis believes can help the club recreate their historic 5th-place finish in the 2009 Super League season.

“We’ve got seven or eight targets that we’re going to be making plays for,” Ellis stated, emphasizing the club’s intention to assemble the “biggest budget” and “the best squad” Wakefield Trinity has ever had in the Super League.

The owner’s grand ambitions extend beyond just player recruitment, as he also mentioned plans for a major renovation of the club’s stadium. Wakefield’s supporters will be eagerly anticipating their side’s return to the top tier, with the prospect of high-profile signings and improved facilities generating a sense of excitement and optimism around the club.
