Rugby League Round-Up: No Cards but Concerns Remain for Some Players
Super League’s Round Nine was a unique one from a disciplinary standpoint, with no cards being issued to any players. However, several individuals may still face potential bans when this afternoon’s charges are confirmed.
The 2024 season has witnessed an abundance of cards and suspensions so far, as players have adjusted to the new interpretations of tackle height laws in the opening rounds. The Match Review Panel had a particularly busy start, charging 16 players after the first round. But the caseload has gradually decreased, with only four charges issued last week.
Despite the lack of cards in Round Nine, a few players will be keeping a watchful eye on the disciplinary proceedings. Warrington’s Danny Walker could potentially face punishment for a “Dangerous Contact” incident involving Ryan Brierley, which resulted in a penalty try. Additionally, Wigan’s Tyler Dupree may also come under scrutiny following a late-game scuffle with Hull KR’s Matt Parcell, although no cards were shown at the time.
The round itself was packed with drama and high-quality rugby league action. Highlights included St Helens edging out Huddersfield with an 80th-minute drop goal, Leigh Leopards stunning Catalans Dragons 30-2, and Hull KR recording an impressive 26-10 victory over Wigan.
