Thrilling Rugby League Weekend as Hull KR Climb into Joint-Second and Huddersfield Giants Edged Out
In a captivating round of Super League action, Hull KR have surged into joint-second position in the home table after a comprehensive 36-6 victory over Castleford Tigers on Friday night. Meanwhile, Huddersfield Giants suffered a heartbreaking 23-22 defeat against Catalans Dragons.
Willie Peters’ resilient Robins have now won nine of their 11 home matches this season, with their only losses coming against Warrington Wolves and Catalans Dragons. Remarkably, their defeat to Warrington was by just a two-point margin, while their most recent home setback against Catalans was decided in Golden Point, with Theo Fages’ drop goal sealing the win for the visitors.
In the victory over Cas, it was a dominant display from Hull KR, with tries from Peta Hiku, Joe Burgess (2), Mikey Lewis, Ryan Hall, Niall Evalds and Tyrone May. Mikey Lewis also contributed four successful conversions.
“It was a really impressive performance from the lads. We’ve been working hard in training, and it’s great to see that translate to the field,” said Hull KR coach Willie Peters.
Across the Pennines, Huddersfield Giants were involved in a tightly-contested affair against Catalans Dragons. The Giants battled back from 14-0 and 22-10 deficits, with Jake Bibby, Kevin Naiqama, Sam Hewitt and Tui Lolohea all crossing the line. Jake Connor also added three conversions, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a narrow 23-22 defeat, with Arthur Mourgue’s late drop goal proving the difference.
- Huddersfield and London Broncos currently share the unwanted position of having just two home wins to their name in the 2024 Super League season.
- The Giants’ first home triumph came on May 31, when they beat Hull FC.
