Huddersfield Giants Playoff Push Led by Kevin Naiqama

Huddersfield Giants Surge Back into Playoff Contention

The Huddersfield Giants have undergone a remarkable resurgence this season, firmly positioning themselves in the Super League playoff race after a difficult 2023 campaign. Currently sitting just two points behind sixth place, the Giants are set to face the Salford Red Devils, who occupy the coveted sixth spot, in a crucial clash this weekend.

A key contributor to Huddersfield’s turnaround has been the impressive performances of center Kevin Naiqama. The 35-year-old veteran, who joined the club ahead of this season following a successful stint with St Helens, has been candid about his future plans.

“Watto [Ian Watson] has asked about my aspirations beyond this year, whether I am keen to play again,” Naiqama said. “He just wanted to know where I was at if I did want to go around again, as he does feel I’ve still got another year left in me.”

Despite his advancing age, Naiqama remains confident in his abilities, stating, “Right now I do feel great. I feel mentally and physically well and there’s nothing there suggesting to me I’m slowing down.”

The Giants’ turnaround this season has been particularly satisfying for Naiqama, who joined the club with the goal of winning silverware.

“It’s been a while since Huddersfield have won some silverware and that’s one of the main reasons I came back to a different club – winning something with a new club,” he explained.

With the Giants beginning to hit their stride in recent weeks, Naiqama is excited about the team’s potential.

“In the last month and a bit we’ve really started to hit our straps and the combinations are starting to form really well. The team’s gelling and we’re excited by what’s ahead but we know we’re not getting carried away.”

As Huddersfield Giants look to secure a playoff berth and potentially end their long wait for silverware, the veteran leadership and experience of Kevin Naiqama could prove invaluable in their push for success.
