As the rugby league season progresses, one name has been grabbing headlines – Greg Eden. The former Castleford Tigers utility back, who made a move to the Championship side Halifax Panthers last year, is reportedly seeking a release from his current club.

According to The Game Caller, the 33-year-old Eden has requested to be let go from the Panthers, and that request has been granted. So far in the 2024 campaign, the try-scoring machine has made nine appearances for the club, with only four of those coming in the league. However, he has found the tryline in his last two outings, scoring one in each of the losses against Swinton and Featherstone, showcasing his continued knack for crossing the whitewash.

Several Super League sides were linked with the experienced back last year, and with various injury concerns plaguing backlines across the league, now could be the perfect time for a few clubs to make a move for the in-form veteran.

The Leeds Rhinos, in particular, could benefit greatly from Eden’s services. With their backline ravaged by injuries, including the absences of Paul Momirovski, Harry Newman, David Fusitu’a and Riley Lumb, the Headingley outfit could slot Eden seamlessly onto the wing alongside Ash Handley, allowing Luis Roberts to return to the centres.

Hull FC

Hull FC, another side struggling for form and consistency this season, could also be an attractive destination for Eden. With injuries and departures impacting their backline options, the versatile former Castleford man could provide much-needed experience and quality, whether deployed at full-back or on the wing.

Leigh Leopards
