Versatile Back Romain Franco Joins French Elite Side Albi Following Wakefield Trinity Departure
Romain Franco, a versatile back, has joined French Elite Championship outfit Albi following his departure from Wakefield Trinity. The 25-year-old spent 18 months with Wakefield, scoring an impressive seven tries in nine games, five of which came last season.
“Franco boasts international experience, having earned caps for both Spain and France, the latter of which he recently helped secure European qualifying for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.”
Prior to his stint in the British game, the dual international made his senior club debut for the Catalans Dragons in 2021, featuring seven times for the Perpignan-based outfit. His overall tallies in the UK now stand at 11 tries in 20 appearances, including a Championship winners’ medal.
Albi Secure Franco’s Signing
Albi, currently occupying fourth position in the French Elite ladder, announced Franco’s signing with a video posted on their X account. The club highlighted his ability to cover various backline positions – 3/4 centre, winger, and fullback – and described him as a “great offensive asset” for the Tigers.
The club’s supporters will be eager to see Franco make his debut, which could come as soon as this Saturday’s away fixture against Lezignan.
