Bradford Bulls coach Optimistic about Keeping Young Prop

Bradford Bulls coach Eamon O’Carroll has expressed optimism about the club’s chances of keeping former Hull FC prop Franklin Pele beyond the 2024 season. The 23-year-old New Zealand-born player has made a strong impression since joining the Bulls in June, scoring three tries in eight appearances.

Pele signed a deal with Bradford for the remainder of the 2024 campaign, and O’Carroll revealed the club is engaged in conversations to potentially extend his stay at Odsal. “We love Frankie, he’s a great man, we really like him,” the coach told reporters following the team’s 54-0 victory over Dewsbury Rams on Friday night, available to watch in full on the club’s official YouTube channel, Bulls TV.

The coach acknowledged that Pele’s next career move is a significant decision for the player and his family, but remained cautiously optimistic about the prospect of retaining the young prop. “His fiancée has really settled here as well, so we’re having conversations with him, and he’s someone I’d certainly like to keep at the club. I’m hopeful we can do that,” O’Carroll said.

Despite the coach’s support, he emphasized that he would respect Pele’s decision, stating, “I also support him as well, his next decision is a real big one for him, and he needs to do what’s right for him and his family.” The coach believes Pele, at just 23 years old, has a lot to offer the game of rugby league, regardless of where his future lies.

Currently sitting second in the Championship table, the Bulls will next face Sheffield Eagles on Sunday week, as they continue their pursuit of the League Leaders’ Shield, which was won by Wakefield Trinity.
