Wakefield Trinity’s Resurgence: A Promising Path Back to Super League Glory in 2025
Wakefield Trinity, a club with a rich history in the sport, is once again on the rise after a challenging period. Currently topping the Championship standings following last year’s relegation from Super League, Trinity have won all seven of their matches this season, showcasing their determination to reclaim their place among the elite.
The recent signing of England international Mike McMeeken from the Catalans Dragons for the 2024 season has further bolstered Wakefield’s ambitions, with the club’s owner expressing his desire to assemble the best squad Trinity has ever had in Super League. In the outside backs, Wakefield are heavily linked with a homecoming for England winger Tom Johnstone, who started his career with the club and scored 87 tries before moving to the Catalans Dragons. Joining him could be the versatile Zak Hardaker, a multiple Grand Final and Challenge Cup winner with a wealth of Super League experience. These two star signings would complement the talents of Lachlan Walmsley, Ollie Pratt, and Max Jowitt, who have all been instrumental in Wakefield’s success this year.
In the halves, Mason Lino, who has excelled in Super League with Trinity, is set to continue as the team’s first-choice player, while Wakefield have been linked with a move for Huddersfield Giants’ Oliver Russell to partner him.
