Rugby League Titans Set for Major Offseason Shake-Up
As the Super League season draws to a close, the renowned Catalans Dragons are set to undergo a significant transition in the offseason. Last year, the club lost several high-profile players, including Tyrone May, Adam Keighran, and Matt Whitley. Now, news has surfaced that Mike McMeeken will depart the club at the end of the current campaign, joining the Championship leaders, Wakefield Trinity, on a long-term deal.
However, the impending changes don’t stop there. According to a report in L’Independant, the Dragons are poised to lose their two star wingers, Tom Johnstone and Tom Davies. Johnstone, who joined the Catalans from Wakefield ahead of the 2023 season on a two-year contract, is heavily linked with a return to his former club, should they secure a Super League spot. Davies, who has been a key figure in the Dragons’ recent success since joining in 2020, is set to sign a contract with Hull KR, with veteran Ryan Hall leaving Craven Park to rejoin Leeds Rhinos.
Despite the departures, there is optimistic news for the Dragons’ faithful. The club is on the verge of securing three high-profile signings to bolster their squad. Jordan Abdull, currently on loan from Hull KR, is poised to make a permanent move to the south of France, despite being under contract at Craven Park until 2026. Additionally, Tommy Makinson, a five-time Super League champion with St Helens, is set to join the Dragons, with his current deal at the Saints expiring at the end of the season. Lastly, Oliver Partington, who began his career with Wigan before moving to Salford Red Devils, will also make the switch to the Dragons.
