Wigan Warriors Gear Up for Hull KR Clash with Key Players Returning
In a boost for the Wigan Warriors, head coach Matt Peet has confirmed the return of both Jai Field and Brad O’Neill for their upcoming Round 9 clash against Hull KR at Craven Park. However, the team will still be without the services of Ethan Havard.
Last weekend, Field and O’Neill were sidelined as the Warriors secured a convincing 36-14 victory over the Castleford Tigers at the DW Stadium. Peet explained that the decision to rest the duo was a precautionary measure, with Field still dealing with a minor muscle issue and O’Neill given a break due to the newly-introduced match limits.
Regarding Field’s condition, Peet stated,
“Jai will play. He just had a tight quad, not a pulled one, he just had a bit of tightness coming out of games. That was meaning that he couldn’t always train, so when we’ve had opportunities to rest him, we’ve taken them and he’s pretty much overcome them now.”
The coach remains confident that the full-back is now fully fit and ready to take the field.
As for O’Neill’s absence, Peet believes the match limits have been a positive change for the game, saying,
“It’s not been difficult (to manage) at all. We understand why it’s in, we get it, and it probably just helps you to keep doing things that you would do anyway.”
Unfortunately, Havard, who has been sidelined since the Warriors’ Grand Final triumph against the Catalans Dragons last October, is not yet ready to make his return. Peet explained,
“There’s not a different one (return timeframe) to what I’ve spoken about in the past. We monitor him daily and as soon as he ticks the boxes physically, he’ll play.”
With the return of Field and O’Neill, the Wigan Warriors will be looking to build on their impressive victory over the Castleford Tigers and secure another crucial win against Hull KR in their quest for success in the rugby league season.
