Wigan Warriors Face Bans After Challenge Cup Drama

Wigan Warriors Duo Handed One-Match Bans After Challenge Cup Showdown

In the aftermath of this past weekend’s thrilling Challenge Cup semi-finals, the Rugby Football League’s match review panel has announced suspensions for two Wigan Warriors players.

Kaide Ellis and Sam Walters will each serve a one-match ban following respective Grade B charges during the Warriors’ victory against Hull KR on Saturday afternoon in Doncaster.

Ellis has been handed a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge, meaning the forward will miss Wigan’s upcoming fixture against Salford Red Devils this Sunday. Teammate Walters, who made his long-awaited debut for the club in the semi-final, has also been given a one-match suspension for a Grade B Head Contact charge and will similarly sit out the trip to Salford.

While the Wigan duo received bans, the only other player charged from the weekend’s action was their teammate, Luke Thompson. The prop was cited for Grade B Dangerous Contact but escaped with a £250 fine, making him available for selection this weekend.

“Player drops on opponent but does not contact the head.”

Notably, the match review panel opted not to charge Hull KR’s Peta Hiku following an incident involving Wigan’s Jai Field late in Saturday’s clash. The panel concluded that the incident did not warrant any further action.

Elsewhere, Huddersfield Giants’ Jake Connor was cited for two incidents in their defeat to Warrington Wolves on Sunday but ultimately avoided any suspensions.
