Widnes Vikings Bolster Forward Pack with Young Talent McKenzie Buckley
Widnes, [Current Date] – In a move that bolsters their Championship aspirations, the Widnes Vikings have secured the signing of talented young forward McKenzie Buckley for the 2025 season. Buckley, who recently departed from Super League side St Helens, will now don the Vikings’ colors as he embarks on the next chapter of his burgeoning rugby league career.
At just 20 years old, Buckley made his debut for St Helens last April, featuring in a match against Castleford Tigers. Despite being one of 11 players to leave the Totally Wicked Stadium at the end of the 2024 campaign, the youngster has gained valuable experience through dual-registration and loan spells with North Wales Crusaders and Whitehaven.
“I’m buzzing to be coming in this season, it’s an exciting year for me and I just want to showcase what I can do and help the team as much as I can.”
Now, the former St Helens prodigy has signed a one-year deal with the DCBL Stadium-based club, eager to showcase his talents and contribute to the Vikings’ push for success in the Championship. Widnes head coach Allan Coleman, who previously coached the young forward, believes Buckley’s potential and enthusiasm will be a valuable asset to the squad.
“He’s a player with bags of potential and that excites me, to see the talent he has got. He’ll be a great player in the Championship. He’s young, enthusiastic, and keen to prove himself in the game. I’m really excited to see the player McKenzie turns into for us.”
With Widnes reaching the Championship play-offs last term for the first time since their relegation from Super League in 2018, the addition of Buckley promises to bolster their forward pack and aid their pursuit of promotion back to the top flight.
