Veteran French Rugby League Player Kevin Larroyer Bids Farewell to Halifax

Experienced France International Kevin Larroyer Departs Halifax After Six Successful Seasons

Veteran French rugby league player Kevin Larroyer has bid farewell to Championship club Halifax after six impressive seasons and over 120 appearances for the Panthers. The 35-year-old, who celebrated his birthday in June, joined The Shay in 2019 and helped the team lift the 1895 Cup at Wembley in 2023.

During his time at Halifax, Larroyer featured in 126 matches, bringing his career total to an impressive 311 appearances. The back-rower also represented France 15 times between 2012 and 2016 on the international stage.

“It’s a very hard decision, very sad about it because obviously, Halifax is the club that I have represented the most in my career.”

While the specifics of Larroyer’s next move are yet to be announced, Halifax’s official statement indicates that he is leaving the club “to take up an opportunity elsewhere.” Prior to joining the Panthers, the Toulouse-born player had spells in Super League with Catalans Dragons, Hull KR, Castleford Tigers, and Bradford Bulls, as well as stints with Toulouse, Leigh, and a loan at Newcastle Thunder.

In an emotional farewell, Larroyer expressed his mixed feelings about departing Halifax, where he has enjoyed “some really great memories.” From the challenge cup semi-final against St Helens in 2019 to the derby wins against Bradford and the 1895 Cup triumph at Wembley this year, the Frenchman will cherish his time with the club.

However, he is now ready to embrace a new challenge and wishes the club all the best for the upcoming seasons. The veteran’s departure will undoubtedly leave a void in the Halifax squad, but his contributions over the past six years have cemented his legacy as a Panthers legend. Fans will no doubt hope to see Larroyer return to The Shay in the future, albeit in different circumstances.
