St Helens Seek Successor to Departing Half-Back Dodd
St Helens face an impending half-back vacancy, with reports indicating that Lewis Dodd is set to join NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2025. Despite the Saints’ efforts to retain Dodd, the young playmaker has decided to pursue a new challenge in Australia.
This development means the club will be on the hunt for a suitable half-back partner to complement existing star Jonny Lomax in the coming year. Both the Super League and NRL offer potential solutions, while internal options within the Saints’ setup are also being considered.
Among the Super League options, Hull KR’s Jordan Abdull emerges as a standout candidate. Despite being contracted to his parent club, Abdull’s future at Rovers appears uncertain, with the arrival of Tyrone May and Mikey Lewis potentially limiting his opportunities. Abdull’s impressive kicking game and poise at 28 years old could make him an attractive proposition for the Saints.
Across the Tasman Sea, several NRL half-backs have been linked to potential moves to Super League. Fiji international Brandon Wakeham, currently playing in the New South Wales Cup, has expressed openness to a European switch in the past. Another option could be North Queensland Cowboys’ Jake Clifford, who impressed during a spell with Hull FC last season.
