The Rise of Noah Stephens
The good news for Saints supporters is that the club’s famous academy continues to produce promising young prospects, and 19-year-old prop forward Noah Stephens appears poised for a senior debut sooner rather than later. Hailing from Crosby, just north of Liverpool, Stephens exhibited his sporting prowess from a young age, captaining the rugby union team at his prestigious school, St Mary’s College, before opting to pursue his rugby league aspirations with St Helens.
“Saints academy coach Derek Traynor, who has been with the club since 1995, has closely monitored Stephens’ development, recounting his impressive performances for amateur club Pilkington Recs that caught the attention of the Saints scouts.”
After joining the club’s scholarship program at age 15, Stephens continued to impress, earning a full-time deal with the first-team squad at the end of last year. Traynor describes Stephens’ style of play as physically imposing, with powerful ball carries and a rapidly developing endurance. While the youngster still has areas to work on, such as adjusting to the speed and intensity of the Super League, Traynor is confident that Stephens is on the cusp of making his senior debut, joining the impressive crop of young talent currently emerging from the St Helens system.
