South Sydney Rabbitohs’ Transfer Strategy for NRL Reinvention

The Rabbitohs Seek Redemption: Targeting Super League Stars to Revive Their NRL Season

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have faced a disastrous start to the 2023 NRL season, leading the club to part ways with head coach Jason Demetriou. Sitting at the bottom of the league table with just one win from seven games, the Bunnies have been spurred into action in the transfer market.

According to reports, the Rabbitohs are heavily linked with a move to bring back legendary coach Wayne Bennett, who previously had a successful stint with the club. Additionally, the club is on the verge of securing the signature of star St Helens halfback Lewis Dodd on a long-term contract.

“The Rabbitohs’ recruitment chief, Mark Ellison, is currently in the UK as the club looks to bolster their forward pack with top talent from the Super League.”

Four potential targets have been identified, with the Rabbitohs keen to acquire a new prop and winger:

  1. George Delaney, Dodd’s teammate at St Helens, who is under contract until 2026.
  2. Tom Amone, Leigh Leopards’ forward, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
  3. Tyler Dupree, the young Wigan Warriors forward who joined the Super League champions last year.
  4. Tom Holroyd, the powerful Leeds Rhinos forward whose current deal runs until 2025.

All of these Super League clubs will be determined to retain their prized assets, but the lure of the NRL may prove too strong for some. As the Rabbitohs look to turn their season around, the recruitment of top-tier forwards from the UK could be the key to their success.
