Sky Sports’ Rugby League Pundit Delivers Scathing Assessment of Huddersfield Giants Star
In the aftermath of Huddersfield Giants’ defeat to Wigan Warriors on Thursday night, Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin once again found himself heavily critical of Giants star Jake Connor.
The game-changing moment came when Huddersfield were leading 8-0 and on the attack. Connor appeared to be nudged off the ball by Wigan half-back Harry Smith, leading to a Jake Wardle try for the home side. Connor immediately protested to the officials, but Wilkin was unimpressed.
“I don’t think so, I think Jake Connor just takes a dive,” Wilkin stated bluntly. “It’s an unbelievable catch, I don’t want to talk about Jake Connor, his season is over.”
This is far from the first time Wilkin has taken aim at the controversial full-back. Last month, the former Super League player criticized the decision to bring Connor back to the club, suggesting it contributed to the demise of head coach Ian Watson.
“Ian Watson is a talented coach and he couldn’t get it done at Huddersfield,” Wilkin said. “Recruitment was bad, Jake Connor was a bad recruit and with all the money he spent, there simply wasn’t the results.”
When pressed further on the contentious incident by Sky Sports host Brian Carney, Wilkin remained steadfast in his assessment, preferring to shift the focus to the impressive Wigan performance, particularly the try-scoring exploits of Jake Wardle.
“Maybe it was. Jake makes the most of it. This Jake (Wardle), wow. He’s fast, quick, athletic, he’s won the game for his team. Look, it could have been a penalty, but there are a few decisions that went against Wigan in the first half as well.”
Wilkin’s scathing critique of Connor’s actions and impact on the Huddersfield Giants’ season is just the latest chapter in an ongoing war of words between the two figures within the rugby league community.
