Rugby League News: Sheffield Eagles Sign Hooker Corey Johnson on 2-Year Deal
In a significant move, the Sheffield Eagles have secured the services of hooker Corey Johnson, who has signed a two-year contract with the club. The 23-year-old Johnson joins Sheffield ahead of the 2025 campaign, having agreed to an agreement that will keep him at the Olympic Legacy Park until at least the end of 2026.
Johnson, who came up through the ranks at Leeds Rhinos, made 29 appearances for the club’s first team since making his debut in 2019. Over the past six seasons, he has also spent time on loan in the Championship with Featherstone Rovers, York Knights, Bradford Bulls, and Halifax Panthers.
“We’re delighted to have Corey join the club. He’s a talented young player with a lot of potential, and we believe he’ll be a great addition to our squad.”

In the 2024 season, Johnson made four appearances for Leeds in Super League while also playing 13 games on loan for Halifax in the Championship. He also made a solitary appearance for Bradford this year.
Johnson was one of nine players to depart Leeds’ first-team squad following the conclusion of the 2024 campaign. Other notable departures include veteran forward James Donaldson, who has returned to the Championship with Bradford Bulls, and Papua New Guinea international Rhyse Martin, who has joined Hull KR on a two-year deal.
Meanwhile, Leeds Rhinos have made five new additions ahead of the 2025 season, including the signings of Ryan Hall (Hull KR), Jake Connor (Huddersfield Giants), Cooper Jenkins (Norths Devils), Keenan Palasia (Gold Coast Titans), and Maika Sivo (Parramatta Eels).
