Rugby League Results: No Appeals as Four Players Handed Bans
(April 18, 2023)
In a rare occurrence, none of the Super League players handed suspensions by the Match Review Panel this week have chosen to appeal their bans. This marks just the third time this season that we’ve seen a Tuesday night without a tribunal process in the rugby league discipline system.
The four players facing one-match bans are Hull FC’s Ligi Sao and Jack Brown, Hull KR’s Sam Luckley, and Salford Red Devils’ Amir Bourouh. All have accepted the punishments, which stem from incidents during Round 7 rugby league fixtures.
KR forward Luckley will miss his side’s upcoming Challenge Cup quarter-final clash with Leigh Leopards, a rematch of last year’s final in the same competition. Meanwhile, the Hull FC duo and Bourouh will sit out their teams’ next respective league games.
This rare lack of appeals is something that has only happened twice before during the 2023 rugby league season. After Round 3, four players including St Helens’ Konrad Hurrell all accepted one-match suspensions, and Hull’s Franklin Pele did the same following Round 5.
For rugby league fans and bettors, the absence of tribunal hearings this week provides a straightforward path to understanding the sport’s latest rugby league results and rugby league scores. Punters visiting leading rugby betting sites can plan their wagers accordingly, with the confirmed availability of these sanctioned players.
As the Super League campaign continues, the rugby league discipline process remains a topic of keen interest, with debates around consistency and player safety often emerging. This week’s lack of appeals, however, offers a unique moment of clarity in the ongoing rugby league news cycle.
