Rugby League Prodigy Ellis Gillam Earns Toulouse Olympique Trial
Highly-rated Championship star Ellis Gillam has been handed the chance to earn a full-time contract with Toulouse Olympique following his departure from Barrow Raiders. Gillam, who featured 71 times for Barrow over a three-year stint, left Craven Park at the end of the 2024 campaign in search of greater opportunities.
While he hasn’t officially secured a permanent deal just yet, Toulouse have given the 27-year-old a two-month trial during the pre-season period. Gillam’s trial will commence in early December and run until the end of January, at which point Olympique will decide whether to offer him a contract for the 2025 campaign.
Formerly part of the Warrington Wolves academy, Gillam never made a first-team appearance for the club and instead spent the majority of his senior career with Cumbrian outfits Whitehaven and Barrow. His lone stint outside of the region came in 2019 when he joined Rochdale Hornets on a 14-game loan.
“We have been playing against Ellis for many seasons and we have always liked him,” Houles said. “He is a pillar who plays long minutes, a hard worker and someone who wants to succeed at the highest level, so we decided to give him his chance over the next two months.”
Eager to seize the opportunity, Gillam stated, “I would like to thank Sylvain and all those involved for giving me the opportunity to prove myself in such a great club. I can’t wait to meet my new team-mates and start training.”
This trial with Toulouse Olympique represents a significant step in Gillam’s rugby league career, as he aims to secure a full-time professional contract and potentially elevate his game to the highest level.
