Richie Myler’s Vision and Plans as Hull FC’s New Director of Rugby

Richie Myler Unveils Vision as Hull FC’s New Director of Rugby

In a recent interview, Richie Myler, the newly appointed Director of Rugby at Hull FC, has expressed his excitement and outlined his plans for the struggling Super League club. The 33-year-old’s surprise appointment on Monday has sent shockwaves through the rugby league community, with Myler announcing his retirement from playing just 45 minutes before the confirmation of his new role.

Speaking on the club’s YouTube channel, Myler revealed his motivation for taking on the position, stating, “I’m over the moon. I can’t wait to get started. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind 72 hours, but the welcome I’ve had at the club has been phenomenal.” The former Irish international acknowledged Hull FC’s stature as a “big club” and shared his understanding of the need to restore excitement and consistency within the team and among the fans.

Myler, who had never intended to become a head coach, explained that he had been envisioning a role like this for the past five or six years, with a particular interest in the business and performance aspects of the sport. “I didn’t really want to be a head coach. I didn’t see myself going down the coach route. So I always was excited and intrigued by the business side of it and the dynamics of the performance side.”

“Quite clearly we’re in a tough spot as a club and we need to be better over a period of time. The way we’ve recruited and the way that we’ve built a squad and the way that we’ve pulled together has probably been a bit fractured. We just need to solidify that and bring everything in together and go productively in the right direction.”

Addressing the club’s current struggles, which have seen them record six losses and just one win in Super League this season, Myler promised to bring a “calmness” and a united approach to the team. Myler acknowledged the doubts and criticism surrounding his appointment, but he embraces the challenge, stating, “I like when there’s a bit of conjecture and there’s a bit of adversity and a bit of doubt.” With his wealth of experience and a clear vision for the club, Richie Myler is ready to take on the task of reviving Hull FC’s fortunes in the Super League.
