Leigh Leopards Prepare to Host Wigan Warriors in Potential Record-Breaking Clash
Charnley and Hardaker Poised for Milestone Matches Against Former Club
On Friday evening, July 5th, the Leigh Leopards will host the Wigan Warriors in a Round 16 clash, which could see two of their players achieve significant milestones against their former club.
Winger Josh Charnley and versatile back Zak Hardaker, who both enjoyed successful spells with the Cherry & Whites, are now part of the Leopards’ squad and are poised to make their mark on the game.
Charnley, who played for Wigan between 2010 and 2016, won three Grand Finals, three Challenge Cups, and two League Leaders’ Shields during his time at the Brick Community Stadium. The 33-year-old is now just eight tries behind Danny McGuire, who sits second on the list of all-time Super League try-scorers with 247. A try on Friday would see Charnley draw level with Welsh dual-code star Maurice Richards in 31st place on the list of all-time try-scorers in the British game.
“The stage is set for Charnley and Hardaker to make their mark and potentially etch their names into the record books.”
Meanwhile, Hardaker spent around three-and-a-half seasons with the Warriors, arriving at the start of the 2019 campaign and departing midway through 2022. The 32-year-old is three tries away from reaching two significant milestones – 150 career tries and 100 Super League tries. 26 of Hardaker’s 147 career tries to date have come in Wigan colours, with 22 of those in Super League.
As the Leopards take on their former club, the stage is set for Charnley and Hardaker to make their mark and potentially etch their names into the record books.
