Leigh Leopards vs. Sydney Roosters: Battle for David Armstrong in Rugby League News

Rugby League News: Leigh Leopards Face Competition from Sydney Roosters for David Armstrong

According to recent reports, Leigh Leopards are facing competition from the Sydney Roosters in the race to sign Newcastle Knights full-back David Armstrong. The Daily Telegraph has revealed that the 23-year-old, who has impressed while deputizing for the injured Kalyn Ponga, has attracted interest from clubs in both the Super League and the NRL.

Armstrong, who joined the Knights in 2022, has seized his opportunity at the first-grade level, scoring five tries in his first four NRL appearances, including a hat-trick against the Gold Coast Titans. His performances have caught the attention of the Leopards, who are keen to bring the New South Wales native into their squad from 2025.

“Full-back is a position that we’ve been looking at for a little while, and Davey Armstrong has been of interest to me, Chezzy (Chris Chester, head of rugby) and the group, without a doubt,” Lam said last month.

However, the Knights have also offered the young full-back a new contract, and they remain confident that he wants to stay in Newcastle. The Roosters have also entered the race, with the defending NRL champions potentially offering Armstrong the chance to compete with their captain, James Tedesco, for the full-back spot.

The Daily Telegraph reports that a decision on Armstrong’s future is expected soon, as the young full-back weighs up his options between staying in the NRL or making the move to Super League with the Leigh Leopards.
