Leigh Leopards’ Remarkable Run Ends at the Hands of Hull KR
In a surprising turn of events, the Leigh Leopards’ remarkable 2.5-year unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday evening, as they suffered a 12-0 defeat at the hands of Hull KR.
The Papua New Guinean coach Adrian Lam, who took charge of the newly-relegated ‘Centurions’ ahead of the 2022 season, had overseen an impressive 80 competitive games without his side being held scoreless. However, this streak was finally broken at Craven Park, with the Robins becoming the first team to nil a Leigh side coached by Lam.
Lam’s tenure has been a rollercoaster, with the Leopards securing promotion back to the Super League in 2022 and even lifting the Challenge Cup trophy last season. However, the Robins have been a thorn in their side, accounting for five of Leigh’s 22 defeats under Lam’s leadership.
“The loss at Craven Park saw tries from Tom Opacic and Niall Evalds secure the victory for the hosts, leaving Lam’s record in charge now standing at: Played – 81, Won – 58, Drawn – 1, Lost – 22.”
Notably, the Leopards’ only previous defeat under Lam came in Round 2 of the 2022 Championship season, a 28-6 loss to Featherstone Rovers. The team’s resilience was on full display throughout the 2022 campaign, with their four defeats that season all resulting in a 6-point scoreline.
As the Leopards look to bounce back from this setback, the focus will be on regrouping and recapturing the form that saw them reach the Super League play-offs and lift the Challenge Cup last year.
