Leigh Leopards Eyeing Super League Grand Final Breakthrough
In a matter of just three seasons, Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam has guided the club from the Championship to the brink of Super League glory. Despite falling short in the 2024 semi-finals, the Leopards are firmly “heading in the right direction,” according to their PNG-born tactician.
Lam’s tenure at the Leigh Sports Village has been nothing short of remarkable. After winning the Championship in 2022, the Leopards went on to lift the Challenge Cup in 2023 and secure a fourth-place finish in Super League 2024. While they ultimately fell to eventual champions Wigan Warriors in the semi-finals, this represented the furthest the club had ever progressed in the top flight.
Facing another off-season of upheaval, with several key players departing, Lam remains confident in Leigh’s long-term vision. “With so many players leaving, it’s a time to be a little bit nervous,” he admitted. “But there’s also the opportunity for growth and excitement comes with that.“
The Leopards have already made waves in the transfer market, securing the signings of NRL aces David Armstrong, Tesi Niu and Isaac Liu. Lam is convinced that this influx of talent, combined with the club’s continued year-on-year progression, will propel them towards a maiden Super League Grand Final appearance in 2025.
“We are heading in the right direction, so we’ve got to be positive through this year,” the 54-year-old asserted. “I think it is an incredible time for the town that they’ve had a team to support and cheer about.“
With passion, belief and a clear strategic vision, Leigh Leopards are determined to cement their status as a powerhouse in rugby league’s top tier. Lam’s sights are firmly set on Old Trafford, and the club’s supporters can look forward to an exciting journey in the seasons to come.
