Hull KR’s Quest for Victory at Totally Wicked Stadium: A Decade-Long Feat

Rugby League News: Hull KR Chasing Historic Win at Totally Wicked Stadium

Hull KR are perched atop the Super League table, but they face a daunting challenge as they seek to defeat St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium – a feat they haven’t accomplished since 2013. The Robins last tasted victory at the home of the Saints 11 years ago, with tries from Greg Eden, Alex Brown, and Travis Burns, along with six goals from Michael Dobson, powering Craig Sandercock’s side to a 24-12 triumph.

Spotlight on the 2013 Triumph

With such a lengthy drought in Merseyside, the spotlight is on the squad from that 2013 triumph to see where they are now. Greg Eden, one of only two players still active from that game, has enjoyed a nomadic career, plying his trade for Castleford, Huddersfield, Salford, Brisbane, and now Featherstone Rovers. Alex Brown, on the other hand, retired after spells at Leigh, Batley, Halifax, and Bradford.

Graeme Horne, a Hull native, made over 100 appearances for the Robins before winding down his career at York and Doncaster, where he reunited with his brother, Richard, the head coach. Craig Hall, the second player still active from the 2013 squad, has had stints at Wakefield, Toronto, Leigh, and is currently with Doncaster.

Other Notable Figures

Other notable figures from that triumph include David Hodgson, who joined the Robins’ coaching staff after retiring, and Travis Burns, who is now the head coach at the Wattles Warriors rugby league club in Australia. Michael Dobson, the kicking maestro, has taken up a coaching role with the Newcastle Knights, while Mickey Paea, the Tongan international, has remained involved in the sport through coaching and mentoring young players.

Iconic hooker Josh Hodgson, who made over 130 appearances for the Robins, went on to carve out a successful NRL career with the Canberra Raiders before retiring and joining the coaching staff at the Paramatta Eels. Sadly, Adam Walker and Jordan Cox, both former Robins, passed away in recent years.

As Hull KR seek to rewrite history and claim a long-awaited victory at the Totally Wicked Stadium, the echoes of that 2013 triumph serve as a poignant reminder of the club’s past glories and the diverse paths taken by the players who were part of that momentous occasion.
