Rugby League Club Hull KR Announces Historic European Tour, Set to Face York Knights in Amsterdam

Hull KR, a team firmly on the up in the rugby league world, has made a bold move by announcing their plans to tour Europe in 2025, with a historic match against the York Knights scheduled to take place in Amsterdam.

The pre-season fixture, set to kick off the 2025 season, will give fans an early opportunity to catch a glimpse of their team’s new signings, kits, and familiar faces. While typically these matches take place at the team’s home ground, Hull KR has decided to take their show on the road, embarking on a global expansion project.

The RugbyLeague.com Amsterdam Challenge

The RugbyLeague.com Amsterdam Challenge, scheduled for January 25th, 2025, will see the Betfred Super League and Championship sides go head-to-head in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. This event reflects the growing passion for rugby league in the Netherlands, with the NRCA Stadium in Amsterdam having recently sold out for ECPR Challenge Cup games.

“This is an exciting day for the club as we continue our Global Robins journey.” – Paul Lakin, Hull KR Chief Executive

The partnership with the Netherlands National Rugby League Governing body has been in the works for some time, and the club is thrilled to extend this collaboration by bringing the team to Amsterdam.

With Hull being a port city, the travel logistics for Robins fans are relatively straightforward, with direct transport links to Amsterdam and Rotterdam. As Lakin noted, “the great country of the Netherlands are almost neighbours for us, with Amsterdam being a shorter distance away from East Hull in miles than Aberdeen or Devon, as the crow flies.”

The club has partnered with Catalans Sports Tours, a familiar travel provider for many Super League away-day enthusiasts, to assist fans in booking their trip to the historic match in Amsterdam.
