Hull KR Reclaim Super League Summit with Commanding Victory over Castleford Tigers
In a dominant display, Hull KR have returned to the top of the Super League table following a comprehensive 36-6 victory over Castleford Tigers at Sewell Group Craven Park.
The Tigers struck first through Alex Mellor, but the Robins responded emphatically, crossing the line four times in the first half through Peta Hiku, Joe Burgess, Mikey Lewis, and Ryan Hall, taking an 18-6 lead into the break.
The second half saw Hull KR continue their dominance, with further tries from Burgess, Niall Evalds, and Tyrone May sealing a comfortable 36-6 win for Willie Peters’ side.
The victory strengthens Hull KR’s position in the Super League’s top two, putting them in prime position for a home semi-final in the play-offs.
With six games remaining, the Robins will be looking to cement their place at the summit, facing a challenging run of fixtures that includes clashes with the likes of Catalans Dragons, St Helens, and Wigan Warriors.
Craven Park has proven to be a true fortress for Hull KR, with the team boasting the second-best home record in the league, behind only the reigning champions, Wigan. The Robins’ impressive 81.8% win percentage at home will give them a significant advantage as they look to secure a home semi-final.
Veteran winger Ryan Hall further etched his name in the history books, surpassing the Great Britain legend Garry Schofield to become the 20th all-time leading try-scorer in British rugby league, with an impressive total of 331 career tries.
Peta Hiku was the standout performer for the Robins, showcasing his class in the center position with a stellar display that included a try, an assist, and a remarkable 149 metres from 20 carries, along with 16 tackles.
The statistics paint a clear picture of Hull KR’s dominance, with the team racking up 600 more metres than their opponents and registering 55 tackle busts compared to Castleford’s 21. While the game wasn’t the tidiest, it was undoubtedly an entertaining affair.
As for Castleford, their recent run of three consecutive defeats has dampened their momentum, but they will be looking to finish the season strongly and continue their progress under coach Craig Lingard, with an eye on building towards the 2025 campaign.
