The Struggles of Hull FC in the 2024 Super League Season
The 2024 Super League season has been a challenging one for Hull FC so far, with a staggering 11 defeats in 12 matches. This dismal performance has raised questions about the commitment and desire of the players to the club’s emblem. Hull FC had built their squad for the 2024 campaign with the intention of creating a dominant forward pack and providing a platform for their half-backs, Nu Brown and Jake Trueman, to thrive. However, the recruitment process has been questioned, with international hooker Nu Brown signed to play as a half-back and centre Jayden Okunbor brought in to play in the second row. This mismatch of player roles has proven to be problematic, as the club struggled to adapt the playing styles of these experienced players.

Now, another Sky Sports pundit, Kyle Amor, has echoed similar sentiments, questioning whether the players are truly committed to the club’s badge.
As Hull FC slipped to another defeat on Friday night against fellow strugglers Castleford Tigers, Amor argued that the players need to start stepping up and staking a claim for their role in the 2025 season. With the announcement of John Cartwright as the new head coach, the players are now in the “shop window,” as Amor put it, with the new coach evaluating who he wants to build around for the future.
The disconnect between the club and the fans has also been evident during this difficult run, with boos ringing out after the win over London Broncos in Round Three and the travelling supporters making their frustrations known after the loss to London in Round 11. Former Leeds Rhinos player Jamie Jones-Buchanan has suggested that the club must remedy these relations with the fans in time for the 2025 season, arguing that the Black and Whites’ faithful should be involved in the decision-making process going forward.
The Road Ahead for Hull FC
Next up for Hull FC is a trip to Huddersfield Giants, who themselves have lost five matches in a row. The club will be hoping to turn their fortunes around and provide a glimmer of hope for the fans as they prepare for the 2025 season under the new leadership of John Cartwright.
