Former Super League Winger Joins Featherstone Rovers After Halifax Panthers Release
Experienced rugby league player Greg Eden has found a new home at Featherstone Rovers after being granted a release from Championship side Halifax Panthers. The versatile back, who predominantly plays on the wing or at full-back, left Castleford Tigers at the end of the 2023 season to join the Panthers, but his stay at The Shay was short-lived.
Earlier this week, the Halifax Panthers confirmed Eden’s departure from the club, stating, “The 33-year-old winger will depart the club after expressing a desire to play closer to home in this new part-time phase of his career.“
Featherstone Rovers have now swooped in to secure the services of the former Castleford, Brisbane Broncos, Hull Kingston Rovers, and Huddersfield Giants player on a deal until the end of the 2024 season. The club’s head coach, James Ford, expressed his delight in bringing Eden on board, saying, “He’s been a quality player over a long period of time, scoring and creating plenty of tries. I feel that Greg really compliments us and what we are trying to do here, and I’m really looking forward to involving him in our 17.“
The prolific try-scorer, who has made over 200 appearances at the highest level and scored more than 150 tries, is excited about the new challenge at Featherstone. “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge at Featherstone and getting started with the boys,” said Eden. “The brand of rugby Featherstone play really excites me, and I’m keen to get out on the field with my new teammates and put my best foot forward for Featherstone Rovers.“
This move is expected to bolster Featherstone’s three-quarter line for the remainder of the 2024 Championship campaign, as they aim to build on their strong performance in the league.
