Featherstone Rovers Secure Three-Time Wales International Caleb Aekins for Two More Seasons
Featherstone Rovers have bolstered their roster by extending the contract of former NRL star Caleb Aekins. The three-time Wales international has penned a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026 season.
Born in New Zealand, the ex-Penrith Panthers and Canberra Raiders full-back has been a key figure in the British game since joining Leigh Centurions in 2022, helping the club earn promotion. After representing Wales at the recent World Cup, the 26-year-old joined Featherstone and has since made over 50 appearances for the Flatcappers.
Aekins expressed his delight at committing his future to the club, stating:
“I’ve loved the last two seasons here and I’m looking forward to 2025 already. My family and I are really settled here, and I can’t wait to play in front of the Blue Wall for a further couple of years.”
The talented back scored 10 tries in 24 appearances last season, guiding Rovers to the Championship play-offs, where they were eliminated in the first round by Bradford Bulls. Head coach James Ford hailed the signing, saying:
“To tie up a player of the quality of Caleb is big for the club. In the last couple of years, he’s proved what a classy and consistent performer he is.”
With Aekins set to reach the milestone of 100 appearances in the British club game next season, Featherstone Rovers have secured the services of a proven rugby league talent who will be instrumental in their push for success in the upcoming years.
