Castleford Tigers part ways with Albert Vete, Seeking Replacement Player

Castleford Tigers Confirm Albert Vete’s Departure, Seeking to Fill Vacant Quota Spot

Castleford Tigers have announced the release of New Zealand-born prop Albert Vete, who joined the club ahead of the 2022 season following his departure from Hull KR. Vete, a two-time Tonga international, made just 10 appearances for the Tigers, with six of those coming last year.

Vete spent time on loan in the Championship with Featherstone Rovers and in League 1 with Doncaster during the 2022 campaign, where he made an impact, scoring four tries in eight appearances and helping Doncaster secure promotion via the play-offs.

“Discussions regarding Vete’s potential exit had taken place, and the club has now confirmed his release by mutual consent.”

However, upon his return to Castleford for the pre-season, the 29-year-old has struggled to cement his place in the team, with all four of his appearances this year coming off the bench, the last of those against Leeds Rhinos at the end of March.

Castleford Tigers’ head coach, Craig Lingard, admitted that discussions regarding Vete’s potential exit had taken place, and the club has now confirmed his release by mutual consent. Tigers chief Danny Wilson expressed his gratitude for Vete’s contributions during his time at the club, while also revealing that the team is actively seeking to fill the vacant quota spot left by the prop’s departure.

With Vete’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, the decision to part ways now provides Castleford with the opportunity to strengthen their squad further as they look to improve on their performance in the 2023 campaign.
