Castleford Tigers Investor Martin Jepson Outlines Ambitious Plans
As Castleford Tigers’ newest investor and board member, Martin Jepson is wasting no time in revitalizing the club. Despite officially joining just five months ago, the lifelong Castleford fan is deeply immersed in the team’s off-field operations, with a laser focus on ensuring the club’s Super League status for next season.
Jepson, who has invested around £1.2 million into the club and purchased 32% of its shares, acknowledges the pivotal nature of the current year. “The priority has to be Super League next year,” he emphasizes, determined to see Castleford climb the rankings and secure their place in the top 12 clubs as per the upcoming IMG restructuring.
While on-field matters will be discussed later, Jepson’s immediate priority is navigating the complex IMG system. He is confident Castleford can achieve a score of at least 14, if not higher, citing improvements to the Princess Street Stand and plans for a new media room as contributors. Jepson’s own investment is expected to boost the club’s standing by 0.5 points over two years.
Redeveloping Wheldon Road
Looking ahead, the long-awaited redevelopment of Wheldon Road is firmly on the agenda. With £2 million in funding from Wakefield Council and an additional £12 million committed as part of the Axiom proposals, Jepson envisions transforming the stadium into the “beating heart of the town.” While the new main stand may not be completed until the 2024-25 season, the club is determined to enhance the overall fan experience in the meantime.
Jepson’s vision extends beyond the stadium, as he explores the potential of the surrounding land to create a true community hub. Whether it’s a training facility or a multifunctional community center, the goal is to make Wheldon Road a vibrant, year-round destination.
Despite the challenges ahead, Jepson remains optimistic about Castleford’s future, confident that the club’s strong financial position and strategic investments will pave the way for long-term sustainability and success.
