Castleford Tigers Injury Updates: Westerman and McShane Status Revealed

Rugby League News: Castleford Tigers Provide Injury Updates Ahead of Wigan Warriors Clash

Castleford Tigers coach Craig Lingard has shared updates on the fitness of key players Joe Westerman and Paul McShane ahead of Friday’s highly anticipated clash with Wigan Warriors.

Loose forward Westerman sustained an Achilles injury during their recent defeat to Leeds Rhinos, while hooker McShane has been sidelined since May 24 due to an arm issue. Lingard provided a detailed assessment of their recoveries.

“Westy came off against Leeds with a bit of an Achilles issue,” Lingard said. “He’s had a scan this week, and there’s no significant damage. It’s now about managing Westy and getting him back to full fitness so he can train and get through games.”

The coach is hopeful that Westerman will be available for the Hull KR match, though they are prepared to give him an extended break if needed to ensure he’s fully fit for the final stretch of the season.

As for McShane, Lingard confirmed that the captain will undergo surgery on his arm this week.

“Macca is going to the hospital tomorrow to have the pins and plates removed,” the Castleford boss revealed. “It’s a bit of an open-ended question, as the specialists won’t know the full extent of the injury until they’ve examined it. We’re hoping it’s a matter of weeks rather than a season-ending issue, but we’re prepared for either eventuality.”

In a positive update, Lingard also confirmed that half-back Jacob Miller will feature against Wigan, despite playing through a rolled ankle in the Leeds defeat.

“He’s still not quite 100 per cent, but Milky being Milky, he has put his hand up. He is probably about 80 or 85 per cent, but he is good to go.”

The Rugby League news article provides valuable insights into Castleford Tigers’ injury situation as they prepare to face Challenge Cup winners Wigan Warriors.
