Warrington Wolves’ Jordan Crowther Finds Career-Best Form Under Sam Burgess’ Tutelage
Warrington Wolves forward Jordan Crowther has attributed his recent career-best performances to his move across the Pennines, praising the warm welcome he received from the club and the invaluable guidance of head coach Sam Burgess.
The 27-year-old, who joined Warrington on loan from hometown club Wakefield Trinity midway through last season before securing a permanent two-year deal, believes the change of scenery has reignited his passion for the game.
“As soon as I came here last year, I was eager to stay,” Crowther explained. “The way the club and my teammates embraced me and my family was incredible, and I knew I had to repay their faith by committing long-term.”
The forward, who has made 15 appearances for the Wire so far, credits the move for helping him rediscover his best form, particularly towards the end of the previous campaign.
“I probably played my best rugby at Warrington,” he said. “The fresh start was exactly what I needed after nine and a half years at Wakefield.”
Crowther has been particularly impressed by the influence of Burgess, the former England and Great Britain international, who has guided the forward’s development through personalized coaching and man-management.
“Sam’s the best there’s been in the game, especially as a middle,” Crowther said. “If I can pick his brain and learn from his experiences, it’s only going to make my game better.”
The Warrington squad have bonded closely, with Crowther and teammate James Harrison even commuting together from West Yorkshire, though the forward’s young family has kept him from fully relocating to Cheshire.
As Warrington prepare to face local rivals Leigh Leopards in Round 8 of the Super League, Crowther is relishing the chance to continue his impressive form under Burgess’ guidance.
