Castleford Tigers Eyeing New Signings Amid Injury Woes
In the wake of Castleford Tigers’ recent Challenge Cup clash against Wigan, head coach Craig Lingard’s latest comments suggest that the Wheldon Road outfit is set to welcome some new faces in the coming days. The Tigers were only able to field 19 players, two shy of the typical 21-man squad, for the cup tie, underscoring the need for reinforcements.
Lingard acknowledged the challenges posed by the lengthy injury list, stating, “> It’s difficult obviously getting the content on the field out there when you’ve got 15 people that have been unable to train all week and there’s not many of them that are going to be rushing back in either.”
The recent suspension of new signing Sylvester Namo due to a Grade F Dangerous Contact charge has further depleted the Tigers’ options.
However, the head coach has assured fans that the club is actively working to bring in new players, revealing that “calls have been made and calls and discussions are happening on an hourly basis.” Lingard remained cautious about the timing of these potential signings, noting the complications arising from the Challenge Cup weekend.
In the aftermath of the Wigan game, Lingard reiterated the club’s intention to bolster the squad, stating, “> We’re hoping to get some in next week but again situations at clubs change minute by minute and game by game.” The coach also provided updates on the fitness of key players, with Alex Mellor sustaining a shoulder injury and Joe Westerman once again struggling with an ankle issue.
Castleford Tigers will face Wigan Warriors again in Super League action on Friday at 8pm, and fans will be keen to see if any of the anticipated new signings will be available for selection. The broadcast details for this match and all other rugby league games on TV can be found here.
