As the 2023 Super League season progresses, Castleford Tigers are already making strategic moves to reshape their squad for the future. With several key players’ contracts expiring in the coming years, the Yorkshire-based club is carefully navigating its long-term recruitment plans.

Current Contract Situations

This season, the Tigers have five players whose current deals are set to conclude, including Corey Hall who will join Wakefield Trinity in 2025, and Brad Martin who is poised to link up with Leigh Leopards. The futures of Samy Kibula, Liam Watts, and Luis Johnson remain to be determined, though Watts and Kibula have options in their contracts for the 2025 campaign.

The 2024 season presents a more significant transition period, with an impressive 14 players reaching the end of their existing agreements. This group includes influential figures such as captain Paul McShane, half-back Jacob Miller, and long-serving forward Joe Westerman. Overseas signings Nixon Putt, Elie El-Zakhem, and Sylvester Namo are also set to depart at the conclusion of the 2024 season, though speculation has emerged about Putt’s potential return home at the end of the current year.

Looking Ahead to 2026 and Beyond

Looking ahead to 2026, the Tigers have 10 players whose contracts are due to expire. Fullback Tex Hoy and in-form forward Alex Mellor have two years remaining on their deals, while Innes and Louis Senior are contracted until the end of 2026.

Castleford’s squad also features two players who are secured for an additional three seasons, with prop Muizz Mustapha and youngster George Hill committed to the club until the end of 2027, with Hill possessing an option for 2028.

“As the rugby league landscape continues to evolve, Castleford Tigers are strategically positioning themselves for the future.”

With a mix of experienced veterans and promising young talents, the club is poised to navigate the challenging roster changes ahead.
