The Business End of the Rugby League Season Heats Up
Top 10 In-Form Rugby League Teams
The business end of the rugby league season is fast approaching, and some teams are entering a remarkable run of form. Across Super League, the Championship, and League 1, several standout outfits have delivered impressive displays in recent matchweeks.
In our weekly Power Rankings, we take a look at the ten best in-form sides in the sport. Starting with a team that has firmly worked its way out of trouble:
10. Whitehaven (NEW)
The Cumbrian outfit Whitehaven has earned back-to-back victories, propelling them out of the Championship relegation zone despite the turbulence surrounding the club. Kyle Amor’s side traveled to Dewsbury with just 14 players but managed a huge win, earning our respect.
9. Wigan Warriors (UP 1)
The Super League champions have climbed a place this week, though they were far from their best in their victory over Hull FC. While the win drew them level at the top with Hull KR, coach Matt Peet knows his side must improve as the play-offs approach.
8. Keighley Cougars (UP 1)
The Cougars have also climbed a place after another hard-fought and important win. Though the League 1 title has slipped away, Keighley know they must be in top form for the play-offs, and their triumph over Hunslet has provided crucial momentum.
7. York Knights (NEW)
The Mark Applegarth revolution at York continued with another impressive victory, keeping their Championship play-off hopes well and truly alive. The Knights were too good for Batley Bulldogs, remaining just two points behind the next team in our rankings.
6. Featherstone Rovers (NEW)
It’s been a remarkable couple of weeks for Featherstone. After doubts about their Championship play-off aspirations, they have surged into contention, with a huge win over Toulouse moving them within just three points of the French side in second place.
5. Leigh Leopards (-)
Leigh are still firmly in the hunt for the Super League top six, and while they weren’t at their best against London Broncos, they are undoubtedly a side in form. The question remains: can they secure a play-off spot?
4. Warrington Wolves (-)
Sam Burgess’ Warrington side continued their push for the League Leader’s Shield with a solid victory at Castleford Tigers. With the easiest run-in of the three teams vying for top spot, are the Wolves the favorites?
3. Wakefield Trinity (-)
Daryl Powell’s Trinity secured top spot in the Championship, comfortably dispatching struggling Halifax Panthers. You get the sense it will take something special to deny them the Grand Final trophy as they pursue more silverware.
2. Oldham (DOWN 1)
The League 1 champions were once again victorious, comfortably seeing off Cornwall 72-0. However, they narrowly miss out on the top spot this week.
1. Hull KR (UP 1)
This week, it’s the Super League leaders Hull KR who take the number one spot in the Power Rankings. Their impressive victory at St Helens was a huge statement, keeping their hopes of finishing top of the table firmly alive.
