Swinton Lions Investigated After Alleged Incident Involving Widnes Vikings Player
The Rugby Football League has launched an investigation into Swinton Lions following a social media post from Widnes Vikings player Nick Gregson. Gregson alleged that a photo of himself with a noose around his neck was placed in the Swinton dressing room before their match on Sunday, accompanied by the words “bully him.”
Gregson, a former Swinton player who was part of the squad that survived in the Championship last season, revealed that his season could potentially be over after suffering a shoulder injury during the match. He accused Swinton’s head coach, Alan Kilshaw, of allegedly targeting his injured shoulder and openly wanting to injure him and other players.
“This incident has gained significant traction on social media, with several current and former high-profile players, including Hull KR centre Oliver Gildart, replying to Gregson’s post.”
In response, Widnes Vikings immediately made a formal complaint to the RFL, which has acknowledged the issue and launched a full investigation. Widnes stated that they are 100% behind Gregson and are offering him whatever support he needs.
However, Swinton Lions have refuted the accuracy of the allegations made by Gregson. The club is in contact with the RFL and its solicitors, but has declined to make any further comment at this time.
The Rugby Football League’s investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the outcome will be closely watched by the rugby league community.
