Rugby League Results: Hefty Suspensions Handed Out by RFL Match Review Panel
In the latest round of Rugby League discipline, the RFL Match Review Panel has handed out substantial bans to a number of players across the Championship and League One divisions, as well as the Academy and Scholarship levels.
Across the two senior divisions, there were 13 charges, with all but two players receiving match suspensions. One notable name to receive a ban was Franklin Pele, who will miss a crucial clash against Toulouse Olympique this weekend due to a Grade B Dangerous Contact charge.
Huddersfield Giants Scholarship player Lewis Jagger was given a Grade D Head Contact charge, resulting in a two-game suspension. Similarly, Wakefield Trinity’s Luke Bain received a one-game ban for a Grade C Dangerous Contact offence.
The most significant punishment came in the form of a tribunal referral for Oldham RLFC’s Danny Craven, who was charged with a Grade E ‘Foul and Abusive Language towards Match Official‘ offence.
Featherstone Rovers were hit particularly hard, losing three players for their upcoming game. Danny Addy and Gadwin Springer were both given one-game bans for Grade C Dangerous Contact, with Springer’s charge stemming from ‘late contact with the passer’.
However, the biggest concern surrounds former Warrington Wolves player Declan Patton, who has been handed a Grade F Striking charge. This carries a minimum six-match suspension and a fine, potentially keeping him out for up to two months.
Patton, who made over 100 appearances for Warrington Wolves between 2015 and 2021, including a Grand Final in 2016, will now face an uncertain future as he awaits the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings.
