Rugby League Highlights: British Players Shine in NRL Round 17
The latest round of the 2024 NRL season saw several British players make their mark on the competition, with standout performances across the board.
In the Canterbury Bulldogs’ narrow 15-14 victory over the Cronulla Sharks, prop Max King produced a mammoth display, running for 151 meters from 19 carries and making 45 tackles with a 90% efficiency rate. King, born in Huddersfield, has expressed his desire to one day represent England despite not yet earning a national team call-up.
Elsewhere, 21-year-old Will Pryce made a dream debut for the Newcastle Knights, scoring a try and impressing with 98 meters from 12 carries, two line breaks, and 19 tackles in his side’s 34-26 win over the Parramatta Eels. Pryce, a product of the Huddersfield Giants academy, was joined in the Knights’ lineup by fellow Englishman Kai Pearce-Paul, who played the full 80 minutes in the back row.

Canberra Raiders veteran Elliott Whitehead put in a typically tireless shift, making 46 tackles at 86% efficiency and running for 72 meters in his team’s 16-6 loss to the Melbourne Storm. Whitehead has been linked with a potential return to Super League with former club Catalans Dragons in 2025.
Herbie Farnworth featured for the Dolphins in their 26-6 defeat to the St George Illawarra Dragons, making 107 meters from 14 carries, while Dom Young continued his try-scoring exploits with a brace in the Sydney Roosters’ 40-6 victory over the Wests Tigers.
Overall, it was another strong round for the NRL’s British contingent, with several players staking their claim for international recognition and making a significant impact for their respective clubs.
