Leigh Leopards Prepare for Transformative Off-Season
Leigh Leopards are set to undergo a significant squad overhaul as they gear up for the 2025 Super League season. With a string of high-profile departures, both announced and anticipated, the Leopards are embarking on the next phase of their journey back to the top flight.
The departure of John Asiata to Hull FC kicked off the exodus, followed by Tom Amone and Kai O’Donnell‘s returns to the NRL, joining the Canterbury Bulldogs and North Queensland Cowboys respectively. Additionally, Zak Hardaker and Oliver Holmes are also expected to leave the club during the off-season.
“This transition period presents an exciting opportunity for Leigh fans, as the club has pledged to utilize the full salary cap, including marquee spots, for the 2025 season.”
Earlier this week, news broke of the Leopards’ coup in securing the signing of NRL flyer David Armstrong.
Major Deal on the Horizon
Now, the club is set to announce another major deal, with reports suggesting an imminent signing for the remainder of the 2024 season and beyond. Leigh Leopards have been strongly linked with a move for Aaron Pene, and a recent social media post by the club, captioned “The Pene is mightier than the sword,” appears to confirm the deal.
Pene, who has enjoyed spells with the Melbourne Storm and New Zealand Warriors in the NRL, is expected to add significant size and power to the Leopards’ pack, filling the void left by Amone’s departure next year.
Leigh supporters can look forward to a transformative off-season as the club continues to reshape its roster, with the promise of more high-profile signings in the coming weeks.
