Leigh Leopards Building Momentum After Slow Start
Leigh Leopards are starting to gather momentum after a difficult beginning to their season. Although they remain some distance from the playoff positions, the Leopards are beginning to build up steam. Leigh’s options in the transfer market have been limited, as the club did not have an overseas quota spot available to bring in a mid-season signing. They had tried to sign the flying full-back, David Armstrong, but were unable to do so as they could not free up space in their squad. The club has now confirmed that one of their overseas players will depart on loan for the remainder of the season.
Nakubuwai Departs Leopards on Loan
Leigh Leopards have announced that Ben Nakubuwai has left the club on loan. The Fijian prop joined the Leopards during the 2022 season and was part of the side that secured promotion from the Championship and won the Challenge Cup in 2023. Nakubuwai will now join Championship side Featherstone Rovers for the rest of the season. The club’s statement reads:
“Leigh Leopards can confirm that Ben Nakubuwai has joined Featherstone Rovers on a season-long loan. The 28-year-old Fiji international has made 44 appearances for the Leopards, scoring three tries, after joining the club from Norths Devils in May 2022.”
Leopards Head of Rugby, Chris Chester, said:
“Ben is at a point in his career where he needs to be playing regularly, and right now that is something we can’t provide here. So we have taken the option to loan Ben to Featherstone to allow him to get some vital first-team minutes.”
