Rugby League Roundup: Key Squad Updates Ahead of Super League Round 12
As the action-packed Super League season rolls on, the 21-man squads for this Friday’s Round 12 fixtures have been confirmed, offering a glimpse into the key team news and selection decisions across the league.
Castleford Tigers vs. Hull FC
In the first match-up, Castleford Tigers host Hull FC at 8pm. Castleford’s Craig Lingard has made four changes to the side that suffered a heavy defeat against league leaders St Helens two weeks ago. Notable returns include Sylvester Namo, Nixon Putt, and Samy Kibula, while young prospect Jason Qareqare has been rewarded with a new two-year deal. On the Hull FC side, Simon Grix has also rung the changes, with Joe Cator, Davy Litten, Matty Laidlaw, and Franklin Pele (loaned to York Knights) making way. However, there is a boost for the visitors as Brad Fash returns from injury, and halfback Ben Reynolds joins on loan from Hull KR, set to make his debut.
Huddersfield Giants vs. Leigh Leopards
Elsewhere, Huddersfield Giants welcome Leigh Leopards, the two sides meeting for the second time this season after Huddersfield’s Round 1 victory. Ian Watson has made three alterations to his Giants squad, with Chris Hill returning from a lengthy Achilles issue, and Sam Halsall and Thomas Deakin also included. Leigh’s team news is yet to be confirmed at the time of writing.
St Helens vs. Leeds Rhinos
Finally, the headline match of the round sees reigning champions St Helens host Leeds Rhinos in a men’s and women’s double-header on Sky Sports. Paul Wellens has made two changes to his Saints side, with Tee Ritson and Jake Wingfield (out injured) replaced by Jonny Vaughan and potentially Agnatius Paasi, who is back from injury. Leeds, meanwhile, welcome the return of key players Brodie Croft and Harry Newman, while Matty Russell joins on loan from Warrington Wolves.
