Rugby League: Wigan Warriors Crush Hull KR in Challenge Cup Semi-Finals

It was a tough day at the office for Hull KR as they were outclassed by the reigning Super League and World Club Champions, Wigan Warriors, in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup in Doncaster. The Robins, who had hoped to replicate their 11-10 triumph over the Warriors in last year’s competition, were instead humbled 38-6 in a one-sided affair.
Wigan’s Matt Peet-led side delivered a superb display, never looking troubled as they scored seven tries to secure a place at Wembley Stadium, seeking revenge for their defeat at this stage last season. The gulf between the teams was evident at the final whistle, with the Warriors showcasing their class and dominance from start to finish.
“You can get to the end of a game and it can look like one team has been completely dominant, but you can bring it back to such small margins in a game that can make it look like one team was way better than the other team,” Pinkney told BBC Radio Humberside.
The former Robins player acknowledged that Hull KR were below par in their performance, with their attack appearing “clunky” and their defense lacking its usual resilience. However, Pinkney remains optimistic about the team’s ability to bounce back from this setback as they continue their Super League campaign.
“There is a lot in that game Rovers will look at and they will know they can bounce back from. It’s just one game,” Pinkney added.
