Rugby League Fans Gear Up for Thrilling Challenge Cup Semi-Finals
As the Challenge Cup competition reaches its semi-final stage, rugby league enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend with a packed schedule of action-packed matches. The men’s and women’s divisions have each set the stage for some highly anticipated clashes.
Men’s Competition
In the men’s competition, Hull KR take on Wigan Warriors at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster. The Robins secured their spot in the semis after comfortably dispatching Salford Red Devils and Leigh Leopards, while the Warriors bulldozed their way past Sheffield Eagles and Castleford Tigers. However, Wigan’s recent victory over Huddersfield Giants came at a cost, with Liam Byrne receiving an early sin-binning. Meanwhile, Hull KR will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Warrington Wolves.
The other men’s semi-final sees Huddersfield Giants, who stunned Catalans Dragons, face off against Warrington Wolves, who defeated St Helens 31-8 in the previous round.
Women’s Competition
In the women’s competition, the reigning champions St Helens take on York Valkyrie in a replay of the 2021 final, which Saints won. Elsewhere, league leaders Wigan Warriors clash with Leeds Rhinos, the losing finalists in the last two Challenge Cup competitions.
Fans can catch all the action live this weekend, with the women’s semi-final between St Helens and York Valkyrie airing on BBC Red Button and BBC iPlayer at 11:15 am on Saturday. The men’s semi-final between Hull KR and Wigan Warriors will be free-to-air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 1:45 pm the same day. On Sunday, the women’s clash between Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos kicks off at 12:30 pm on BBC Red Button and BBC iPlayer, followed by the men’s semi-final between Huddersfield Giants and Warrington Wolves at 3:15 pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
