RUGBY LEAGUE: Hull KR Suffer Injury Blow as Oliver Gildart Sidelined for Six Weeks
In a disappointing turn of events for the rugby league community, Hull KR have confirmed that their in-form centre Oliver Gildart will be out of action for approximately six weeks due to a knee injury that requires surgery.
The 27-year-old, who joined the Robins in the off-season, had been making a strong impact in recent weeks, scoring a try in the team’s victory over his former club, Wigan Warriors, at the end of April. However, just before their impressive 40-20 win against St Helens at Craven Park last weekend, Gildart was forced to withdraw and was replaced by recent recruit Jack Broadbent, who scored on his debut.
Despite the setback, Hull KR have been on an impressive run, winning seven of their last eight matches across all competitions. As they prepare to face Warrington Wolves on Thursday night in the first Super League game of Round 11, the club has shared the news of Gildart’s prognosis on social media.
In a statement, Hull KR confirmed that “Oliver Gildart sustained a knee injury during the warm up in last week’s win over St Helens. The centre will require surgery and will miss approximately the next six weeks. Everyone wishes Oliver a speedy recovery.”
This injury timeline means that Gildart will miss the crucial Challenge Cup semi-final against Wigan, as well as the final at Wembley should the Robins progress that far. The centre also missed out on Leigh Leopards’ Challenge Cup triumph last year due to the timing of his registration.
Fans will hope to see Gildart return to the field in Round 15, when Hull KR travel to Castleford Tigers. Until then, the team will have to navigate the coming weeks without their influential centre.
