York Knights Winger AJ Towse Attracting Interest from Super League Clubs
In a recent reveal from Love Rugby League, it has emerged that York Knights winger AJ Towse is being monitored by several Super League clubs as a potential target for 2025.
The 22-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the Championship over the past year. Towse finished the 2023 season as the top try-scorer for the Knights, underlining his prowess on the wing.
Towse’s journey in the sport began at the York-based community club Heworth, before he made his debut for York in 2021. The talented winger continued his impressive form in 2022, scoring eight tries in 18 appearances and earning a nomination for the Championship’s young player of the year award.
However, Towse has taken his game to new heights in 2023, crossing the line 20 times in 34 matches for the Knights. This consistent and prolific form has once again seen him shortlisted for the young player accolade in the second-tier competition.
Unsurprisingly, Towse’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with several Super League clubs closely monitoring the youngster’s progress. These top-flight teams have identified the winger as a Championship talent capable of making the step up to the elite level.
Despite facing more limited opportunities at York this year, with Joe Brown and former Hull man Tom Lineham establishing themselves as the first-choice wingers, Towse remains one of the standout players in the second division. York head coach Andrew Henderson has acknowledged that the 22-year-old has been left out for performance-related reasons.
Towse’s current contract with the Knights is set to expire at the end of the 2023 season, and at least three Super League clubs are closely following his situation, eager to secure his services for the 2025 campaign.
