Rugby Disciplinary Charges Announced Across Multiple Competitions
In the latest disciplinary update from the Rugby Football League (RFL), several players from the Championship, League 1, academy, and Women’s Super League have been charged following last weekend’s matches.
Charges and Suspensions
Whitehaven’s Papua New Guinea international Edene Gebbie is among the eight players cited, receiving a ‘Grade B Head Contact’ charge after his side’s 28-24 defeat against Featherstone Rovers. However, Gebbie will only face a £125 fine, with no suspension.
The lone Championship player set to serve a ban is Doncaster’s Greg Burns, who was handed a ‘Grade E Head Contact’ charge and will now be referred to a tribunal.
Elsewhere, Wakefield Trinity’s young prospect Harvey Smith has been slapped with a two-match suspension and £25 fine for a ‘Grade D Dangerous Throw/Lift’ charge from an academy fixture.
In League 1, four players have been charged, with three receiving suspensions. Midlands Hurricanes’ Matt Welham and Hunslet’s Isaac Shaw will both serve one-match bans for ‘Grade D Dangerous Contact’ and ‘Grade C Dangerous Contact’ offenses, respectively. Keighley Cougars’ Dan Parker has also been suspended for one game following a ‘Grade B Dangerous Contact’ incident deemed to be at the higher end of the sanction scale.
The only League 1 player to avoid a ban is Workington Town’s Carl Forber, who was charged with ‘Grade B Dangerous Contact’ but was handed a £40 fine instead.
Lastly, York Valkyrie’s Kelsey Gentles has been suspended for one match after being cited for a ‘Grade C Dangerous Contact’ offense during their win against Barrow Raiders.
This latest disciplinary update underscores the continued efforts by the RFL to maintain the integrity and safety of the game across all levels of rugby league competition.
